Summerville Lights is a ghost lights The most "ghost lights" are likely to be benign, but not so the Summerville Light. We don't know if it's because the location-out Sheep Island Road, just north of Summerville, South Carolina feels so desolate or what, but there's definitely a bad vibe here.

Mysterious[]

Maybe it's a matter of contrast. One minute you're at a busy shopping center with lots of other cars and people all around, and then the road dips around behind the center and the pavement ends. There, it quickly turns ugly. In fact, if it's been raining, we recommend four-wheel drive, or better yet staying home. The story about the light begins with the usual beheaded railroad worker, but this time there's a twist. The light is supposedly that of the wife of the dead guy, out looking for him after he didn't return home for dinner. She stalks up and down the road, mad as a hornet- but whether she's mad at him, mad at the railroad company for not looking after its workers better, or just mad in general isn't so clear. What is clear is that the light isn't friendly. Observers have reported dents and burn marks on their cars, shorted electrical systems, mysterious stalls (you really don't want this to happen while you're out there at night), and damage to iPods and digital camera gear. People who have encountered the lightsay metal objects, including zippers and the rivets on jeans, sometimes become uncomfortably hot to the touch. We say look, but keep a safe distance. And don't go by yourself after dark.
